Cathy Fountain was born and brought up in Corby, Northamptonshire, and at the age of 12 she started to play the cornet in her school band, Beanfield Comprehensive. Her love of music, and in particular brass bands, grew from there. She went on to study music at Colchester institute School of Music and after she graduated she went on to qualify as a music teacher in Birmingham.
Her teaching career has lasted 30 years and has ranged from secondary to primary schools and has included the roles of music teacher, music coordinator, head of year, head of lower school, assistant head teacher and head teacher. Her present role is inclusion manager in a primary school.
Cathy has played in various brass bands including Kettering Citadel Band, GUS and Kibworth. She has played cornet but her first love is flugelhorn.
Cathy has two sons, James and Thomas, who are both excellent cornet and trumpet players. They are very busy playing in various ensembles which keeps Cathy busy transporting them around and supporting them in their many band jobs and solo performances. Both boys have played with Youth Brass 2000 and were both Principal Cornet at their respective times in the band.
Cathy now enjoys conducting and is presently the conductor of Corby Silver Band.
She is delighted to be working with Youth Brass 2000 and counts it a privilege to be working with such enthusiastic and talented children.
